Billing Policy

2nd Avenue Medical Centre — Effective March 2026

This Billing Policy applies to all patients of 2nd Avenue Medical Centre, trading at Cnr 2nd Avenue & West Street, Verwoerdpark, Alberton, 1449. Practice owner: Dr Jan Gideon Labuschagne (HPCSA: MP 0329584). Practice registration: 4770104299.

1. Consultation Fees

All consultations are charged at the current medical aid tariff rates as prescribed by the relevant medical aid scheme or the National Health Reference Price List (NHRPL). Cash-paying patients may qualify for a cash discount — please enquire at reception prior to your consultation.

Fee schedules are reviewed annually and are available on request from our reception team.

2. Medical Aid Patients

  • It is the patient's responsibility to ensure that their medical aid membership is active and that physiotherapy or GP services are covered under their benefit plan before the date of service.
  • The practice will submit claims on behalf of the patient to their medical aid. However, the patient remains the account holder and is ultimately responsible for payment of all outstanding amounts.
  • If a medical aid rejects, reduces, or withholds payment for any reason — including exhausted benefits, non-authorisation, or exclusions — the full outstanding balance becomes the patient's responsibility.
  • Co-payments are payable on the day of the consultation. The practice does not carry forward co-payment balances.
  • A valid South African ID number or membership number must be provided to enable medical aid billing.

3. Cash & Self-Paying Patients

Cash-paying patients are required to settle their account in full on the day of the consultation. The following payment methods are accepted:

  • Cash
  • Debit card
  • Credit card
  • Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) — proof of payment must be emailed to docjan911@gmail.com

4. Physiotherapy Accounts

For physiotherapy services, accounts must be settled within 30 (thirty) days from the date of statement, unless alternative payment arrangements have been agreed in writing with the practice manager.

It is the patient's responsibility to confirm that their medical aid covers physiotherapy treatment and to obtain any required pre-authorisation before commencing treatment. If the medical aid does not cover the physiotherapy services rendered, or if pre-authorisation was not obtained, the patient remains responsible for full payment.

5. Overdue Accounts

Accounts not settled within the agreed period will be subject to the following:

  • A reminder notice will be issued after 30 days.
  • Interest may be charged on overdue accounts at the maximum rate permissible under the National Credit Act.
  • Accounts outstanding beyond 60 days may be referred to a collections agency. All costs of collection, including legal fees on an attorney-and-own-client scale, will be for the account holder's account.

6. Appointment Cancellations & No-Shows

We request a minimum of 24 hours' notice for appointment cancellations. Missed appointments or late cancellations may attract a consultation fee at the discretion of the practice, particularly for specialist or extended consultations.

7. Billing Disputes

Any billing queries or disputes must be raised in writing within 30 days of receiving the statement. Please contact our Practice Manager:
